Niger Tornadoes ready for new league season

Enyioha Opara, Minna

Niger Tornadoes of Minna on Friday expressed their readiness for the 2016/2017 Premier League season.

The club also said other teams in the league should be aware of their ambition to finish in the top three at the end of the season.

Coach of the club, Abubakar Bala, told reporters in Minna that the club used the 2015/2016 season “to study life in the elite division” and were now ready to fight any club in the league.

Bala said the performance of the team during the pre-season games they played had reinforced their confidence in the team ahead of the new season. The team won four, drew four and lost only three matches against established sides.

“We had a bitter experience last season but I can assure you that the lapses observed will not resurface this season,” Bala said.

“Lokoja will still be our home ground as the Bako Kotangora Stadium is not yet ready but that won’t stop us because we won’t be the only team doing such this season. It is difficult playing home matches on away grounds because teams have more confidence against us and we tend to lose more but we are prepared for the new season.”

He however expressed gratitude to fans in the Kogi State capital for their support.

He said, “We expect the same support we had last season from our fans in Lokoja in the new season.”

Tornadoes finished in the 11th position in the Premier League last season.
