Three persons are said to have lost their lives during a communal clash between Oku Iboku in Itu Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State and Ikot Offiong community in Odupani Local Government Area in Cross River State.

The two communities over the years have been involved in several clashes which had resulted in loss of lives including those of women and children, our correspondent learnt.

Our correspondent also gathered that houses and markets were usually burnt during such clashes.

However, the actual cause of this current crisis could not be ascertained as of the time of filing this report. But a source said it may be connected to unresolved disputes over claims to the wetland demarcating the two communities.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Cordelia Nwawe, said there was no on-going communal clash as the police are fully on the ground.

Nwawe said, “There is no community that is clashing because Nigeria Police about two days now have taken complete charge of the areas around Odukpani. I do not know where you people get your information. Nobody has died, it is just mere speculation.”
