The African Boxing Union has approved Ghanaian Annang Sowah as the new opponent for Nigeria’s Stanley ‘Edo Boy’ Eribo in the ABU welterweight title fight at the GOtv Boxing Night 10 at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Lagos, on Monday.

National welterweight champion Eribo was initially billed to fight Tanzanian Meshack Mwankemwa, who pulled out claiming he could not secure a Nigerian visa.

“Meshack was afraid that he would be beaten. I had planned to knock him out in the third round. I suspect that having watched my fights, he concluded that he would be beaten and invented the visa lie,” said Eribo.

However, Sowah, who had previously fought for the African and the Commonwealth titles, is a boxer with a huge profile. He has had 25 fights, winning 18, including impressive showings in the last four.

GOtv Boxing Night 10 will feature six fights. Oto ‘Joe Boy’ Joseph will take on Nurudeen ‘Prince’ Fatai for the third time. Joseph won the two previous fights, including one in which he dethroned Fatai as  national lightweight champion.

Also in the lightweight division, Rilwan ‘Real One’ Oladosu will take on Prince ‘Lion’ Nwoye.  Also in action is national featherweight champion, Waidi ‘Skoro’ Usman, who takes on former champion, Dare ‘Fighting Machine’ Oyewole. The light heavyweight division has a challenge contest between Kabiru ‘KB Godson’ Towolawi and Emmanuel ‘Man Mopol’ Igwe.

In the light welterweight division, Rilwan ‘Baby Face’ Oladosu will take on Sikiru ‘Omo Iya Eleja’ Shogbesan. The best boxer will win N1.5m.

Hip-hop rave, Small Doctor, will perform live at the event.
